چکیده

Vanilic Acid Article 2200431 by Markus Stöckl, Siegfried R. Waldvogel, and co-workers demonstrates a new method how to obtain selectively vanillic acid, flavouring agent antioxidant, from side-stream lignins degradation using electrochemically generated ferrate as oxidizer. In times of climate changes the utilization relevant bio-based lignin renewable feedstock for fine chemicals is considered will rival petroleum refining.

Degradation of vanillic acid and production of guaiacol by microorganisms isolated from cork samples.

The presence of guaiacol in cork stoppers is responsible for some cases of cork taint causing unpleasant alterations to wine. We have performed a characterization of the cork-associated microbiota by isolating 55 different microorganisms: eight yeast, 14 filamentous fungi or molds, 13 actinomycetes and 20 non-filamentous bacteria. A screening for degradation of vanillic acid and guaiacol produc...

Vanillic acid in polar ice cores

This discussion paper is/has been under review for the journal Climate of the Past (CP). Please refer to the corresponding final paper in CP if available. Abstract Biomass burning generates a wide range of organic compounds that are transported via aerosols to the polar ice sheets. Vanillic acid is a product of conifer lignin combustion , which has previously been observed in laboratory and amb...

Removal of H2S and COD Using UV, Ferrate and UV/Ferrate from Municipal Wastewater

Background; The aim of this study is to compare UV, ferrate (VI) and UV/ferrate (VI) methods for removal of hydrogen sulfide and chemical oxygen demand (COD) from municipal wastewater under a continuous condition. Methods; The experiment was divided into three parts: 1) pollutants removal by using ferrate (VI) alone; 2) pollutants removal using UV alone; 3) pollutants removal using a combina...

The beneficial effect of vanillic acid on ulcerative colitis.

Vanillic acid, an oxidized form of vanillin, is a benzoic acid derivative used as a flavoring agent. The objective of this study was to determine whether vanillic acid has beneficial effects against dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis. Our results showed that vanillic acid reduced the severity of the clinical signs of DSS-induced colitis, including weight loss and shortening...
